*This is book 4 in the IF I Break Series. It is strongly suggested to start at book 1 which is currently free.
When you’re heartbroken, it lies beneath everything that you do. It’s in all of who you are. Foreshadows who you’ll be.
It hides underneath your smile, rests between your laugh, revels in your tears and taunts your every thought. You wish it away but are too terrified to let it go….
When Cal first disappeared I swore my heart had broken, and before all of this is over I swear it will shatter into pieces.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!This book was amazing! There hasn't been a weak book in the series, and this book does not disappoint. I love following Cal, Chris, and Collin's evolution. This was so well executed. Even in the end, I couldn't hate Collin, because it was obvious that he believed his actions were driven by the desire to protect Lauren from Cal and Chris's war. I liked that we were able to follow Collin's emotional evolution where he learned to feel and love and become more whole, instead of just an emotionless mediator. His self-preservation made sense; that was a theme with Cal and Chris all along, and it's logical that as he developed strong feelings and became more human, Collin would do the same. And I really, really loved that Cal seemed to be in the lead in the end, even after integration. It seemed fitting as he's the one Lauren fell in love with and married. I can admit to wanting to see a bit more of who Cal was in the first book. There was so much more power to him in the first book, not just all pissed off attitude, but I think the change is due to the circumstances in the last book and now this one. He really is powerless now that the whole world is no longer his playing field. However, that made room for Chris to toughen up a bit and become a bit more understanding and flexible, and for us to learn who Collin is, and see his necessary growth. Collin needed to embrace his humanity for all three to move forward together. I really, really hope there will be an If I Break #5 to follow this in the future. I don't want this series to end!

If I Break #4 Shattered Pieces eBook Portia Moore Reviews
Shattered Pieces is the epic conclusion to Lauren and Cal's story and struggle of working through their relationship while dealing with Dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as Multiple personality disorder in the medical field. Before getting into the story or writing ability of Portia Moore, it is important to note that Portia does an excellent job through out the entire series bringing attention and awareness to a mental health disorder that has much contention surrounding it in the mental health community. DID is under a lot of scrutiny and debate in the medical field and Portia addresses this conflict in Shattered Pieces through conversations between Collin (one of the alters) and Helen (his doctor). Although Portia, to my knowledge, is not involved in the mental health or medical community, she does an excellent job in appealing to ethos in her readers and making herself seem a credible authority on the subject. The fact that Portia has done her research on the subject, while also adding her own flair and imagination while remaining believable, is apparent and what keeps the readers enthralled in the story. If the plot was not believable, who would read all four books plus the other spin offs in the series?
As for Shattered Pieces specifically, As much as I loved Cal in If I Break, and appreciated getting to know the self described "hero" Chris, in the other books, Collin took center stage in much of Shattered Pieces and as the "conductor" it was extremely interesting to see an alter that would be a middle of the road or neutral character. This story also developed Lauren into a much more dynamic character. We finally see her come into her own and have something for herself, that she can build upon even with Cal if it were to come to that. Lauren realizes her own potential and grows up a lot in Shattered Pieces. We also see Cal/Chris go through a tremendous amount of growth in this novel as well. True to style, each character must go through a tremendous amount of pain and heart break to get there, but just like an arrow, one can not shoot forward without being pulled backwards and each of these characters and alters must take steps backwards in order to move forward it seems.
Shattered Pieces was the perfect ending to the If I Break series and rounded out each of the characters stories, the final chapter does leave lingering questions; however, readers who love these characters will appreciate the surprise at the end
Oh my goodness where do I begin, this was by far the most extremely phenomenal book of the whole series If I Break. Portia Moore is an amazing writer. I feel in love with her books when I read the first one of Lauren and Cal and couldn't wait for the next to come out. I've read them all over and over waiting patiently on the last one.
I will admit I've read this one a few times just wanted to get my head in the right place to write a good review for this exceptional author. She had put so much time and effort into all her books and this one is the creme da la creme of books. She has explained what DID is in all her books the symptoms what happens. It's amazing how this could happen to someone.
This book pulls you in and holds your attention from front to back. I'm in awe of this lovely lady, she is so meticulous in her words and her writing shows how much she cares not only for every book she writes but how much she wants her audience of readers to like her stories. She cares about her readers and how we feel about her books.
Now on to the storytelling. ..It's amazing how Lauren could show her love for Cal, Chris and Collin, she knew in her heart that they were all the same man. Only difference was how they acted around her for instance Cal was her first love she was with him the most. Then he left thinking it was for the best without telling her why.
After that she found out she was pregnant with his child . Circumstances changed when she found out that he was living another life with a fiance then realized he wasn't her Cal but his name was Chris, that was tough to swallow. That's when they both found out that his parents had been lying to him not only them but his Dr. too. She still loved Cal but realized Chris was Cal and fell in love with him , Chris came to have feelings for Lauren and he didn't want to hurt his fiancée who had been there for him in his time of need when needed her most. But his love for Lauren and his daughter came first. Everything came to a head after his explosive talk with Lisa, when he remembered walking in an catching his dad and best friend Lisa having sex, that's what brought on his DID that's what triggered his episodes of changing from Chris to Cal. They leave Michigan and go back to Chicago. That's a rough recap of what happens in the books before this one.
This starts where book 3 showed that Cal was responsible for his mom's death. Wow that's a hard pill to swallow. But he's not himself after finding out about his dad and best friend not to mention he has a little sister and finds out that Dexter Jr. Is his brother...could you imagine something like that happening to you? It blows my mind so you can imagine what Cal, Chris is going through . We met Collin from a previous book when it seemed like Cal or Chris couldn't handle what life was throwing at them.
Lauren is distraught she doesn't know how bad this is going to be or who is going to come back, she's not sure if it's going to be Cal, Chris, Collin or someone new . She knows it's gonna be hard on whoever comes forward. No matter she will be there for him, them.
We don't see much of Cal in this book as we did in the others. This seems like it's healing time for him and Chris. We have the pleasure of Collin's company. Ms. Moore shows in detail the depth and love each of them has for Lauren Collin cares for Lauren but he is the one that isnt suppose to have emotions . We see the love and caring n Chris's eyes , and the passion and love in Cal's from the very beginning.
Collin does something for her that should have been done to keep her dream alive, he bought her a art studio.
Collin has decided that he is best choice for Lauren since they are talking about integrating he thinks he should be the one to come out on top.
There are some major ups and down this will take you on an extremely emotional roller-coaster ride. Twist and turns you wanna get off of but have to stay to see the outcome of this literally phenomenal story.
Wow there are things that conspire that Collin doesn't like, especially when he walks into the art gallery and finds drawing that absolutely sets him off and destroys everything Lauren has worked toward.
As usual Chris wakes up without any knowledge of what's been going on and has to piece together everything. This time he wakes up in a hospital with handcuffs...oh my what did them boys do??
Chris goes to see her , she's hurt , sad about what took place but no matter what she still loves him no matter who he is. Chris tells her he's leaving that they can't go on like this, she pleads with him and guess who appears her first love he says he has to but he will be back for her to hold on. I love this part where she says why because I have to....before he walks out the door he turns and says Because I need you to....sigh
Now Chris has all of them together in his mind . It's time to buckle down for Lauren's sake if not she'll be in here and not of her own will. We aren't leaving till we agree on this integration. .Says Chris ..well stay as long as it takes.
Let's say Cal is more than pissed with Collin...leaving it there for you to read...
Months go by and Lauren has no clue about Cal hopefully everything is going good..
She can't see him
Wow one hellva book I absolutely recommend this book and author highly
I was given this phenomenal book to read an give an honest review but had to purchase it
You won't get disappointed believe me..but you must read the first 3....
